Traveling

By: Diana Avila Gutierrez

Traveling is one of the things I most love to do. You get to discover a world beyond the one you are used to. You meet new people, new traditions and you forget the troubles you may be facing. Overall I have traveled to Seattle Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Mexico. It is not a long list but I hope to soon expand it. I dream of traveling to Europe and Canada, one day I will.

My family and I have taken several road trips. We have gone to all those places listed above on truck except Seattle. Road trips are far more enjoyable than airplanes. On airplane you do not get the full experience all you see are clouds. In contrast from road trips you see the different homes, stores, and people. It is exhausting though, (once we traveled 50 hours on truck). The only reason I prefer the airplane over driving is that when we go on road trips my Dad is the only one who drives and he is drained from the long hours of not sleeping and constant driving. When we travel to Mexico I sleep in the US and I never close my eyes when we get to Mexico. It entertains me to gaze at the small shops in Mexico and I compare the differences between the two countries. Road trips is all about new experiences and discovering places you have never seen.

The last time I went to California I was about 8 and it was for Christmas. My aunts in California invited us to spend the holiday there. The little that I remember was that several of my other aunts and cousins I had never seen came so I got to meet them. It’s been a long time since I have gone to California but soon my aunt and uncle are going to come visit us in Colorado for my graduation.

When I visited Seattle it was the first time, since I was a baby, that I traveled on airplane. This time we went to visit my Dad’s side of the family that lived in Seattle. The event was also Christmas and I still remember the traffic in Seattle to get to my aunt’s house. I liked the atmosphere that surrounds Seattle, the green and chilly breeze, the rain and climate, I loved it there.

For the last few three or four years my family has traveled to Mexico once every year for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. We usually spend about a month that quickly passes. In Mexico I have my grandparents from both my Mom and Dad’s side. My grandparents are always my motivation to continue on challenging me, I want them to be proud of me, they have so many grandchildren but I want to stand out and make them remember me for my achievements.

Traveling is a great experience that everyone should try. You will not regret it. Explore and try something new. It will be worth it.
