The most wonderful time of the year is here! Christmas is in a few weeks! Do you have your tree decorated and your presents wrapped? Have you ever wondered when Christmas was made a holiday? Where does the story of Santa Clause come from?
Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus. Christmas started in Rome. All over the world people celebrated at the end of December. Each person celebrated something different like in Europe it was the time they had meat and in Germany they celebrated the god Oden.
Church officials were the ones who decided to name Christmas a holiday millions of years ago. Many believe Jesus was not born in December but December 25th became the day to celebrate because in the Roman Empire it is seen as a day of rebirth.

Santa Claus is known to be the man who brings children Christmas presents. Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas, a 4th century saint. The image of Santa came from an illustrator for Coca-Cola who made Santa Claus have a long beard and a red cap.

For Christmas my family goes to Mexico and we celebrate with my cousins and grandparents. We exchange gifts and do secret Santa. We also sing Christmas Carols and we bake. We even have huge piñatas. What do you do for Christmas?
