My Thanksgiving

By: Diana Avila Gutierrez December 3, 2020

This thanksgiving was very different from all the ones I’ve had. I couldn’t go black Friday shopping but most importantly I couldn’t have dinner with my family. Every thanksgiving my family that is in Colorado gets together and we have tamales. This thanksgiving I could only be with my parents and siblings. Even if it was different I enjoyed my thanksgiving.

It is hard to believe but I have only eaten turkey for thanksgiving once. For thanksgiving I usually eat tamales or pozole. This year I ate tamales and my mom made gelatin for dessert. I love eating tamales; I could eat them everyday. My favorite part is helping my mom make them. We make tamales rojos, verdes, and with cheese for my little brother.

An event that happened in thanksgiving as well was that in Aguascalientes, Mexico where I was born my dad won a car. Its a hilarious story because my dad didn’t want to buy a ticket and I believe it was luck that the person who had the number before him decided not to do the raffle and that exact day of the raffle my dad bought the ticket and won the car. When my dad was told he won the car it was impossible to believe. In the picture that is my dad’s father in Mexico with the car my dad won on thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving may not be the same but it still means the same. It is a day to be thankful for everything we have. I’m thankful for my family and I am blessed to have them in my life.

  1. How fun!! I absolutely LOVE eating tamales and pozole for Thanksgiving as well. There are some years my family doesn’t make chile colorado and I feel so sad without it. Congratulations to your dad!! That is so exciting! Thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving with us. (:
