An entire week after a fight outside an Atlanta hookah lounge erupted in gunfire, killing an up-and-coming Chicago rapper and another victim, police have also made several post-arrests that have been made in the case. King Von, friends and family knew him as Dayvon Bennett, was among six people shot on November sixth when a brawl outside the “Monaco Hookah Lounge” turned into chaos. Another man, 34-year-old Mark Blakely was also killed, and a third gunshot victim remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said Thursday. Now last Saturday, Atlanta police said a 22-year-old Timothy Leeks had been charged with rapper King Von’s murder. Crazy thing is Leeks was also shot during the exchange of gunfire, authorities said. Two other men, a 21-year-old Johnny Harris and also a 23-year-old Kevin Jones, have been since charged for their alleged roles in the shootout, Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said. “Jones faces one count of aggravated assault and Harris is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon,” according to police that is.
Authorities also identified the remaining shooting victims as a 28-year-old Bryant Humphrey, a 27-year-old Francois Jameson and lastly a 19-year-old Saada Mchardy. It’s still unclear which of those victims, if any, were shot by an Atlanta police officer. The entire case is still under investigation currently as we speak! King Von was an amazing talent. And could back it up. King Von had recently released a 16-track album and was set to premiere a music video for his song “Armed & Dangerous” on the day he was killed. I was curious with the idea of having any footage of the situation to get a better understanding of the situation. Surveillance footage posted to Twitter last week appeared to show the rapper getting shot during the initial brawl outside of the nightclub. In the video, a large group is seen leaving the club as punches are thrown. The group dips after noticing that one man steps out from behind an SUV and begins firing shots. One of the victims, presumably Bennett, is then picked up off the pavement, loaded into a car and driven away from the scene. He was the immediately taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.
Atlanta Police claimed, “At this time, our investigators believe Mr. Bennett was shot during the initial shootout between the two groups of males, prior to police responding and attempting to stop the shooting,”. Other then all that reportedly, there is footage showing King Von and GA rapper Quando Rondo in a physical altercation the day Von was fatally shot, but Quando says he was acting in self-defense during the brawl. TMZ reports that Quando’s team says that the rapper wasn’t looking for a fight that night though. Even saying Von was the aggressor in the fight. Sources close to the situation claim that Quando was outside the club napping in a car, and when he woke up he was greeted by King Von’s crew. Footage from outside the club shows Von throwing punches at members of Quando’s crew, even though Quando supposedly didn’t know exactly what was going on. One of the members of Quando’s crew has been arrested for felony murder, but police are not investigating the rapper himself and currently consider the case closed. Sources have added that the rapper feels bad about the situation, although the two camps have yet to talk since the shooting has happen. Period, point, blank. Dayvon “King Von” Bennett will rest in peace. His music and place in hip hop will live on forever. And all we can hope is less young artist continue to die.
